Laboratory Technician
The company
Rahu Catalytics (“RahuCat”) is a spin-out company from Unilever that develops oxidation catalysts for a variety of industrial applications.
The company has its headquarters in Nottingham (UK) and its main technical centre in Leiden (The Netherlands). RahuCat targets different industrial applications to achieve energy, water and waste-cost reductions, using highly active but environmentally benign manganese and iron catalysts. RahuCat works in partnership with leading players in various markets to develop applications in areas such as cellulosic treatment, paint/ink drying, industrial cleaning/detergents and chemical synthesis.
The job opportunity
RahuCat is looking for a Laboratory Technician to be located in our technical centre in Leiden. The team in Leiden studies our oxidation catalysts to help optimise their use in targeted applications. This is done in close collaboration with our commercial team and with external partners to allow exchange of information and roll-out of laboratory findings. Different analytical tools are employed to study the effects of the catalysts and, based on the results from the laboratory, recommendations are made to the external partners to commercialise the catalysts specifically for their area of application.
Key tasks and primary accountabilities
- Plan and perform laboratory experiments aiming at evaluating the performance of oxidation catalysts for certain industrial applications.
- Analyse and report the results obtained and formulate recommendations for further tests and/or trials together with external partners.
- As a member of the technical team, assist and advise in developing the catalysts.
- Provide technical solutions to external customers.
- Develop new test methods for catalyst program evaluation.
- Maintain part of the laboratory equipment
- Liaise closely with the commercial/business development teams
Requirements
- Chemical or analytical education (BSc or MSc).
- Good computer skills (Windows software: Word, Excel, Powerpoint).
- Excellent oral and written English communication skills
- Good appreciation of project timelines, deadlines and commercial applicability.
- Be able to work as a part of a multi-disciplinary team or independently.
